The Yellowhammer State’s population increased 5.1% to 5,024,279 from 2010 to 2020. The Last Frontier State was the least densely populated state in 2020 with a population of 733,391 (1.3 people per square mile), up 3.3% from 2010. The Grand Canyon State’s population grew 11.9% to 7,151,502 from 2010 to 2020.

Income and Poverty in the United States: 2020

Poverty: The official poverty rate in 2020 was 11.4 percent, up 1.0 percentage point from 10.5 percent in 2019. This is the first increase in poverty after five consecutive annual declines (Figure 8 and Table B-4). In 2020, there were 37.2 million people in poverty, approximately 3.3 million more than in 2019 (Figure 8 and Table B-1).

Working From Home During the Pandemic

This is more than double the percentage (32.1%) of households with incomes between $50,000 and $74,999, a range that includes the 2019 median U.S. household income ($65,712). New Estimates Show U.S. Population Growth Continues to Slow
